Number/percentage of group members who believe that knowledge sharing will produce positive outcomes

Indicator Number:
76

Category:

Logic Model Component:

Data Type(s):
Count, proportion, qualitative
Short Definition:
Measures the anticipated outcomes of a specific behavior by group members
Definition and Explanation (Long):
This indicator measures the anticipated outcomes of knowledge-sharing behavior. Outcome expectations refer to an individual's belief that a certain behavior, such as knowledge sharing, will lead to a specific outcome, such as recognition). These are the outcomes expected from performing a certain behavior (Murray-Johnson et al., 2001; Bandura,1977).
Data Requirements:
Self-reported quantitative data using Likert scales; self-reported qualitative data on outcome expectations reported to have changed and why, and the implications of those changes
Data Sources:
Surveys, in-depth interviews
Frequency of Data Collection:
Periodic (before, during, and after specific activities)
Purpose:
Outcome expectations can be measured at the community or individual level. In the context of KM, individuals may share knowledge because they have the expectation that they will be viewed as skilled, knowledgeable, or respected (Chiu et al., 2006). Community outcome expectations have a positive influence on quality and quantity of knowledge shared (Chui et al., 2006).
Issues and Challenges:
Further research is required to better understand how identification impacts both knowledge quality and quantity in networks that use both online and face-to-face modalities for knowledge sharing.
